Every year hens in Australia produce around 4.8 billion eggs, that’s a lot of omelettes! Nearly 70% of these eggs were laid by battery hens, who are kept in cages for their entire lives. This way of farming is extremely cruel. Caged hens live in a space the size of and A4 piece of paper, they can’t even spread their wings.
There are approximately 16.9 egg laying hens in Australia, 11.3 million of these are subject to life in a cage.
We think hens deserve better! You can make a difference by choosing free range eggs at the supermarket. You can also check out the hens deserve better website, and send a letter to Australian companies asking them to stop using caged eggs in their products.
